  3. Today's class was good. I learned how to use Edmodo. The possibilities are limitless for teachers. Joining communities to get ideas or help on a topic is very convenient! To use Edmodo may be difficult to do with my first graders, however to use it as another form of communication with parents is a great idea!

  4. Considering limited access to computers that our first graders have, our students can use Edmodo to communicate with the first grade team (teachers and students). I picture this happening when our classrooms are fully equipped with computers and internet...when and IF that will ever happen. But for now, it's not going to hurt trying Edmodo even with one computer. It will make a kid feel like a big kid. :)

  5. go to Edmodo and sign up. It is free and join Guam Professional Network and start a culture of learning for all teaching professionals on Guam. The code is 1e6zuz. Lets start sharing the wealth of learning on our island.

  6. For Edmodo, I would join communities and collaborate with teachers from around the world to work on a project that would involve both our students such as making presentations on their cultures via video.

Students could produce creative writing pieces by utilizing Jing. They could take a picture which could act as their writing prompt.

The Myna program could be used to have the students apply sound effects and at the same time read a story aloud which could be recorded.

  7. Go to Edmodo and sign up. It is free!!!! Join "Guam Professional Network" and start a culture of learning for all teaching professionals on Guam. The code is 1e6zuz. Let's start sharing the wealth of learning on our island. Once all the teachers in the Gate Way to technology program participate, we can open the channel for professional teaching and learning dialogues.

  9. Many of my 8&9 students were familiar with technology by the time they arrived in my Third grade classroom primarily because of cell phones and the gaming industry. This was a good jumping off point to guide them into learning activities on computers at school. With all the education resources this Tech class has familiarized me with, I now see many new opportunities for my students to learn to love learning and get them ready for their work environment of tomorrow – especially with all the interaction and collaboration that can take place on-line – for free! The “Can you imagine…” exercises in this class are astounding and inspiring. I have lots of new ideas and have already started getting set-up for our next school year. Thank you so much for this enhancement to what we currently know about technology. So, Gateway, thanks for the enrichment training and let’s hurry up and get a better internet and more computers into the classrooms!!!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Cina, it’s comforting to know you find this training helpful. I agree with you on the need for GDoe to give teachers (and by extension to students) reliable and acceptable internet connection as well as the much needed hardware.

  11. Good job Jennifer! I can see that you have entered the "gateway". Encouraging others to become engaged is the key to being of service to our students. Thanks for being an enthusiastic and engaging student.

Everyday I come to this class, there are new information, new sites to look into. I would start this edmodo to communicate with my students for the year 2011-2012. I find this so interesting and exciting.

  13. Tonight we created an account in Edmodo! It'll be something that might work with the parents of the students for the next school year!

  14. I just love Edmodo! I think we all had fun with today's lesson as we were all LAF, as another fellow classmate put it. I can't wait to go home and mess with the network to see what else it has to offer. I'm especially excited for the gradebook option. I used to create my own website and online gradebook, but they took a lot to maintain. Edmodo makes it so much easier.

  15. Sorry, had a long day today. It was a lot of info to soak in... Will look into today's sites again... some time later. The aviary site caught my attention. I have a son who would surely get a kick out of that site.

  16. Andrew says: Fun Blog Creations. I am going home to show Edmodo to my middle son and have him create a blog for a.martin.family on Guam. Then I'm going to take credit for all his work.

  20. So many good websites to play with. Edmodo is my favorite. Love the grade book option and the fact that i can communicate with students, unlike powerschool. I just need to set a Edmodo playdate this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Edomodo seems much easier than our Powerschool we are required to use. But I can't wait to start using it as well as audacity in my classroom.

I LOVE Edmodo and Xtranormal! Thank you for sharing these sites. I always wondered where those little cartoons came from. =)

Here's one of the first videos I saw using Xtranormal (Parent Teacher Conference): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sr5kWOdkHYA

  25. Tonight’s class was exceptional. The students were given the opportunity to view and create a BLOG as a group. In addition, I joined edmodo.com and created a TEACHER’S BLOG. Having a CLASS BLOG will be an advantage for students and their parents to communicate with me twenty-four seven. OUTSTANDING!!!

  26. I think I'm in the slow learner category...lots to learn at the end of the day. Cecilia

  27. I like the xtranormal site! I could see myself creating fun and silly things on it! My students will love it if I could present a lesson using cartoon figures.

  28. Edmodo is pretty cool; I could use this to communicate and keep tabs on my students (at least those with internet access). I look forward to using it in the upcoming school year. There is a lot of room for improvement to make this social network more effective and user friendly, but it's still very good.

  29. Edmodo is a pretty awesome tool for teachers to use to communicate with their school community. When computer and internet access becomes more prevalent to students and their parents this will be a great way to interact and engage the school community as a whole.

  31. I cannot wait to set up my edmodo to increase home and school communication. I wish my daughter's teachers would have something like this set up so that I can easily monitor the academic progress of my children.

  39. Grace, sorry did not have time to blog. I set up my Emodo and blogged from there. I tried to connect with Cecilia and Emiliana but my setting are not on the computer I am using at school. It says that my user name is already been taken. Well, anyway, the class last night was great. I will work more on Emodo so I can be ready for the new school year.

  40. Awesome Learning from yesterdays class. Massive information overload. I envision using many of the skills I've learned. I was in awe with www.xtranormal.com and managed to come up with a sample video of how I intend to use what I've learned. Also, I firmly believe that the blogging sites and social networking will be inevitable. Attaining knowledge for utilizing these sites will be mandatory to be proficient in teaching the learners of tomorrow. Here is a link of what I generated. Just copy and paste it into the web address bar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-Nny6XBHIo

But during this summer, I look forward to find time and start a website just for my grandchildren.

Communication...so many avenues but we need to make sure we have ground rules for each. In class we discussed benefits such as opening the communication liines between ourselves and the world (other teachers, admin., parents & students), however the disadvantage of having a 24/7 window in which information can be delivered/received needs a controlled means to protect all. Everyone involved needs to know the appropriate uses of such technology. On another note, Edmodo seems to be a great tool to use next year as a means of dispersing information amongst faculty & staff. Love the Avatar too...my kids used to do something similar as a beginning of the school year activity, but with paper & pencil of course-what an upgrade.

  48. Communication with computers can save us a lot time in making contact with parents, students, teachers, and administrators. We just need to feel comfortable and keep an open mind to technology. This would a great way to arrange a potluck.

  58. Today was the most fun of all. Really liked the edmodo free site for teachers and students. Much, much better and more useful than PowerSchool that we use at DOE. Hope to use it and share it with grade level teachers when school begins.

  59. Today was a "Eureka!" day. Although I struggled through the mail merge activity, I did get the picture and know I will need a lot of practice to become proficient at it. Edmodo and blogging really captured my attention. Loved it!

I will encourage my JFK colleagues to attend. They surely don't know what they're missing.

  60. Really appreciated learning how to make labels. Printed labels will make my files and other labeled items neater and make the process faster.

  62. I like to provide folders for my students. Last school year, I was trying to create labels and it took me forever to do so. I kept trying and was successful. Since you taught us more about mail merge, I can add on more in less time! Thanks :)

  63. This class is so informative. I now have an edmodo account to use with my students and I am now a blogger. However, it was getting frustrating on the spreadsheet because my computer was acting up. It was getting difficult to follow along because the system kept freezing. Lots of info crammed into a day...whoo!
